Looking at beautiful art can help with pain management. Research subjects rated pain as being a third less intense when viewing beautiful art as opposed to something they considered ugly, or a blank canvas. Electrodes measuring the brain's electrical activity confirmed a reduced response to the pain when the subject looked at paintings that he or she considered beautiful.

"It was great to have the paintings pinned up in the office, I did this activity every time I went to the printer to collect printouts, it was like a breath of fresh air."
