Ezra Pound’s 1913 poem “In a Station of the Metro” is possibly the first Western poem to be heavily influenced by the Haiku form. He was the founder of the “Imagist” movement who used simple but powerful images in short poems, aiming for the same clarity and intensity they found in Japanese poetry.
