Strengthen Your Thinking - Make Marks to Music - Drawing

About Mark Making

Every mark you make describes or says something in your drawing, rather like each word in a poem. Exploring and building up a good range of marks can be described as creating a ‘visual vocabulary’. So, just as writers select their words, if you have a wide visual vocabulary, you can then readily select gestures, shapes, patterns, dots, smudges etc. that will achieve the effect you want, when making a drawing.

Ideas for marks don’t always come easily when faced with a blank piece of paper. So to help you come up with new ideas, you’re going to use music or sound in this exercise to inspire you.
