Step 1: 

• Draw a small rectangle or square (6 x 4 or 6 x 6 cm, or similar) in the centre of the card (see next point), and cut it out: start by cutting somewhere in the middle of the rectangle and working your way out to the drawn lines  

It’s not crucial that the window is dead centre of the card, but if you want to be accurate try the following:

• To find the centre of the card, use a ruler and draw a diagonal line which joins up two corners, then join up the other two corners – the lines will cross in the centre (see example below)

 

 

1. Draw lines connecting the corners

.  Measure an equal length from the centre along each line – try 4cm if using A5 size card - and join them up (see example below)

 

 

2. Measure and mark an equal length from the centre, along each line

.  The shape of the window will relate to the shape of the card you’re using – that is, a rectangle of card will produce a rectangular window, and a square of card will produce a square window

• Draw a rectangle by connecting up the marks. (See example below)

 

 

3. Connect up the marks, and cut out the centre rectangle
