Drawing & Painting - Read More

"Making drawings made me more confident in that I'm able to tell people I'm actually following a course, doing drawing etc: it's a good conversation point. It makes you proud that you're doing something."

Believe it or not, we all use drawing in our everyday lives. For example, we may make a sketch to get an idea across - “Can you cut my hair this shape?”    “I’ve drawn you a map from the station to my house”     “This is how I’d like my kitchen to look…”
Doodling is something else we all do, and very often we do it whilst on the phone or in a meeting. Have you ever wondered why? A study has now confirmed that doodling can boost memory and concentration when we’re listening to something dull, helping us to pay more attention and remember what was said. That’s because when we doodle, we use slightly more mental resources, so preventing the mind from wandering. (Andrade: App Cog Psychology 2010).

We also use drawing to be creative, perhaps recording a beautiful scene or object so we remember it, making a sketch before we start a painting, to illustrate a story or designing something we’d like to make.
