"We must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference, ignore the small daily differences we can make which, over time, add up to big differences that we often cannot foresee."
In 2008, over 400 scientists from across the world pooled their knowledge to write a report called Mental Capacity and Wellbeing (The Foresight Report). The report shared evidence about how simple actions, if performed everyday by all of us, can improve well-being.
Connect – because people are important to our health
Be active – because it raises mood and helps you sleep better
Notice – because practicing awareness of sensations, thoughts and feelings can improve our wellbeing
Keep learning – because learning is good for our self-esteem
Give – and receive, because cooperative behaviour triggers reward areas of the brain and makes us feel good
“a dynamic state, in which the individual is able to develop their potential, work productively and creatively, build strong and positive relationships with others, and contribute to their economy. It is enhanced when an individual is able to fulfil their personal and social goals and achieve a sense of purpose in society.”
