Virtual Gallery - Change the mood with music

Research shows that music affects us in many ways. Most of us enjoy listening to music, whether that’s to dance to, or to relax with via a release of tension and stress.

Using music as part of coping with the pressures of life can be very effective. What music really relaxes us when we are tense, what music perks us up when we are low, what music inspires us?

To find out more about how strongly music can affect us, try this fascinating mood-shaping exercise.

You’ll be viewing our virtual gallery and listening to different sound tracks whilst considering the mood of each painting. See what happens when different sound tracks play.

How long will the exercises take?

You can spend as long or little time as you like on each exercise. All exercises are split into stages so you can complete them over a period of time, whether that’s a morning or afternoon, or a week or longer. We suggest you make yourself a tea or coffee and enjoy the time to yourself, immersed in the exercise of your choice.   Take as many breaks as you need. Remember it’s a good idea when doing a creative exercise to have a break from it and come back to it with fresh eyes.
