Mindfulness: A brief Pause

What is mindfulness?

So often we’re caught up in our thoughts, thinking about past events, worrying, planning things we need to do, that we miss our experience of being in the present. Mindfulness involves purposefully bringing awareness to our present moment, with a quality of warmth, kindness, curiosity, and spaciousness.

What might this exercise offer?

Mindfully pausing throughout the day is a beneficial way of bringing a few moments of stillness into busy lives. In this way, we give ourselves permission to take time out and connect with our here and now experience.

With regular practice of mindfulness, we can learn new ways of responding to the stresses and strains of daily life; and cultivate a richer appreciation of the world around us. Studies have shown that being mindful can help us

  • Manage stress more effectively
  • Improve the quality of our communication and relationships
  • Notice and connect more to our surroundings, which is proven to be beneficial to wellbeing
  • Change the way we respond to pain, low mood, and anxiety
  • Become more self-aware, so helping us feel more in charge of our lives
