"I would love to go on and do more courses. It's given me the confidence to go on and do something else"

Four Seasons

This is a step-by-step learning experience in how to make a piece of hand-made embellished felt.  You’ll be guided through embroidery and felt-making techniques.

Although it’s possible to pick and choose individual exercises, in this instance, we recommend that you follow the course as it stands. That’s because the guided felting video uses drawings and designs you’ll have produced through following previous exercises. You can follow the exercises online or print them off to do wherever you choose.

What might these exercises offer?

The Four Seasons exercises:

  • Encourage us to look closely at nature and be curious about the world around us
  • Prompt us to be observant and to notice the passing seasons
  • Build confidence through learning new skills
  • The stitch exercises in particular give us a portable and relaxing activity to carry   round and continue with wherever we are

How long will these exercises take?

Both embroidery and felt-making are relatively slow art techniques, giving much satisfaction and pleasure along the way. You can spend as much or as little time as you like on each exercise, but don’t feel you need to hurry if things take a little longer than you expect. This is all part of the fun!
Exercises can be completed over a period of time, whether that’s a morning or afternoon, or a week or longer. We suggest you make yourself a tea or a coffee and enjoy the time to yourself, immersed in the exercise of your choice. Take as many breaks as you need. Remember it’s a good idea when doing a creative exercise to have a break from what you’re doing and come back to it with fresh eyes.
