"By doing the textile activities Ive set time to be creative - time for me"
Step 2: Notice your surroundings
- When you go out and about, look out for things around you that suggest your chosen stitch. When you notice something, make a note of it in your pad – a written note or a sketch – or take a snap. Notice the background and the detail of the thing you’re looking at
Step 3: Stitch your example
- Select a piece of fabric and cut a small square or rectangle e.g. 10cm x 8cm; 8cm x 8cm
- If you can, choose a fabric which has the same or similiar colours to what has inspired you
- Select your thread and stitch your sample - you are creating a small ‘memory’ of the object you saw, so match your stitches to this memory. You may want to vary the size of your stitches if this is appropriate
Automatic forgiveness:
As with all our ‘A bit a day’ exercises, if you miss a day, don’t worry. Just carry on the following day, or as soon as you can.
Tip:
You can glue or stitch your memory stitch samples into a little notebook or sketch book, along with your original photo or notes about the memory that inspired you.
